Workshop Supervisor required for a leading engineering company, providing engineering solutions to industry and offers one of the most comprehensive breakdown engineering, machining and fabrication services in the UK.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, The Workshop Supervisors will initially be working on a 3 month temporary trial basis, before being taken on permanently by the company.
You will be responsible for the control and overall organisation of the shop floor jobs and personnel to achieve on time delivery of work whilst ensuring quality, safety and cost expectations are met. Liaising with the General Manager/Operations Manager, Branch Administrators, Engineers, Head Office Personnel, Customers, Suppliers and Sales Team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Scheduling of labour resources including control and monitoring of overtime
- Timesheet management
- Effectively supervise workshop personnel in all aspects of their employment including conduct and performance
- Assist in the development of existing teams and team integration
- Produce job quotes
- Workshop presentation standards are maintained to high levels
- Effective implementation of Group policy and procedures within the workshop and branch
- Health and Safety standards are adhered to
- Liaise directly with customers, including site visits where appropriate
- Promote strong customer service ethos within workshop personnel
- Delivery of expected work quality
- Delivery of expected defined cost and time schedules – Gross Margin control
- WIP maintained at relevant branch level and have full knowledge of jobs within WIP.
Other Responsibilities:
- Ensure workflow procedures are followed
- Ensure records are maintained and ERP system up to date
- Work closely and effectively with office based branch personnel
- Work closely and effectively with other branch engineering departments
- Identify skills and training need requirements
- Ensure plant maintenance is carried out and recorded
- Carry out workplace risk assessments and method statements where necessary
- Provide guidance and technical support to personnel and apprentices
- Participation in Lean initiatives and implement where relevant
- Participation in any required training provided by the Company
Person Specification:
- Time served apprenticeship in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
- At least 3 years supervisory experience with proven man management skills
- IOSH Certification advantageous
- C & G Certification advantageous
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- IT Literate
- Ability to understand and convey instruction
- Committed to achieving excellent customer service and high standards of workmanship
- Sound commercial knowledge and understanding of gross margins
